The storied Fontainebleau is in the upcoming 3rd season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and we are just kvelling. The classy Morris Lapidus-designed mega-hotel is throwing it back to their glorious late 1950’s era of decadence and glam with a bevy of celebrations all designed to bring you back to a time when ladies wore heels and pearls – even to the pool – and fellas knew how to rock a plaid blazer and still manage to get laid.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel follows the story of Miriam “Midge” Maisel, played by Rachel Brosnahan, a New York City housewife who dives into the world of stand-up comedy after her life takes an unexpected turn. In season three, Midge hits the road on tour with Shy Baldwin, making a stop at Fontainebleau Miami Beach.
Reflecting the era, Fontainebleau’s lobby was restored by the series’ production teams to match the time period of the show, with cast members donning vintage Fontainebleau uniforms. In the new season of the series, Midge will be seen walking down the iconic Stairway to Nowhere and strolling through the hotel’s historic lobby. And oh, that lobby with its bow tie tile floors and glittering chandeliers still dazzles us every time. Its sprawling outdoor poolscape is still one of the most impressive in Miami and the overall feel of the place evokes a luxury liner permanently docked on a perpetually-sunny perch of Miami Beach.
To celebrate the Amazon series, starting in December and available through the month, the iconic hotel is offering guests Maisel inspired packages for stays, dining, and the spa, plus bar and shopping offers. Fontainebleau Miami Beach served as a filming location for the production in June 2019, and the hotel plays a starring role in the new season of the show, which is available to stream exclusively on Prime Video on December 6, 2019.
For starters there will be a nightly ‘Marvelous Hour’ at the shmancy Bleau Bar on December 5, 6 and 7. Each night, from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. guests of the hotel will be invited to enjoy a glass of sparkling rosé to commemorate the season premiere and kick off the resort’s month-long celebration of the show. There will also be show-inspired cocktails available including “The Midge” ($17) made with gin, strawberry purée, lime and cayenne pepper and “The Susie” ($17) made with Bulleit rye, pomegranate juice and orange bitters.
The hotel’s Vida restaurant will also be getting in on the mid-century jew-tastic fun with a pre-fix dinner for two inspired by classic Jewish-American cuisine, priced at $45 per person. Offerings include matzoh ball soup, latkes topped with gravlax and of course braised brisket.
They’re also offering a stay package that includes The Marvelous amenity pack, which includes a branded bag, show themed exclusive gifts, treats from Fontainebleau’s coffee and pastry shop, Chez Bon Bon, a bottle of sparkling rosé, and the Jewish-American Maisel-themed prix-fixe dinner for two at Vida.
Do you love the Fontainebleau, too, and think its appearance in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a union any matchmaker would be proud of? Go experience these glam 50’s packages, and that legendary lobby with its bow tie floor tiles, for yourself.
